On 30 September BI led a round table discussion with company and union representatives on social dialogue for efficient and sustainable workplace skills development in Nairobi, as part of a study for the Swedish Workplace Programme (SWP).
Augmented and diversified patterns of globalization, technological development, automation and digitalization of industry and services is rapidly altering the playing field for competitiveness and productivity. This is reflected in the way companies operate, and the way people work.
The demand for skilled and competent workers is increasing. Skills development is central to sustainable business operations for companies. Social dialogue has the potential to establish an important platform for the development of skills for the continued employability and transition of workers at the workplace.
BI is conducting a pre-study for the Swedish Workplace Programme (SWP) to research and develop skills development as a theme for SWP’s and SWP companies’ contribution to the Decent Work Agenda. This includes exploring how SWP´s social dialogue approach can address issues related to skills development at the workplace for competitiveness, productivity, continued employability and just transition.
