Sustainability is a broad term, and our approach to working with sustainability is also broad. Besides helping private actors with sustainability reporting and aid government agencies with capacity development, we also work with the non-profit sector. For a longer period, our focus has been on Tanzania and Somalia where, together with LM International, we run a project funded by Postkodstiftelsen.
The project’s aim is to deliver quality education, with a focus on children facing barriers to learning and girls. This is done by providing schools with hardware and access to the educational software Binogi.
Introducing e-learning has been challenging in both Tanzania and Somalia, where digital literacy amongst students, teachers and parents is low and cultural sensitivities play a big role. However, we have been working tirelessly together with our project officers locally at the schools, and our mid-line report shows that 85% of students who use Binogi improve their academic results! A huge success for us, but most importantly for the students.
The most important result however is apparent outside of schools. Binogi help children facing barriers to learning reach quality education, which has changed the general attitude towards them.
A big challenge in both Tanzania and Somalia are the low numbers of qualified teachers, meaning that educational quality differs. With Binogi, teachers get a tool that helps with preparation and student learning in an efficient, correct and fun way. To do so, implementation on the ground has been pivotal. Our project officers have teamed up with local government, principals, teachers and parents to make sure that acceptance of the project is high. Passing the half-way mark, attitudes amongst stakeholders is good and local government want to implement Binogi widely.
Our hope is that we will be able to launch similar projects all over the world, together with schools, local governmental bodies and private actors. Interested? Let us know!
